Item upgrades
Any weapon, shield or piece of armour can climb to +5. Bring ore, wood or hides and some gold to the stations in the town shops, and each level adds one random bonus to your item. The best rolls are rare, so a well-rolled +5 is something to show off.

How to upgrade
- Gather ore, wood or hides, or buy them from other players. Upgrading to +N takes tier N material.
- Go to the anvil at the smith, the workbench at the bowyer or the tanning rack at the leather or armour shop in any of the 12 big towns and use it.
- Put your item in the window that opens. It shows what the next level takes, your chance of success and every bonus the item can roll. Press Upgrade.

Five levels, each one harder
Each level needs more material and gold and succeeds less often.
- +185%30 ore/wood25 hides
- +270%60 ore/wood50 hides
- +355%120 ore/wood100 hides
- +440%240 ore/wood200 hides
- +525%480 ore/wood400 hides
- Upgrading to +N takes tier N material, 30 pieces for +1 and twice as many each level after: 480 cobalt ore or ghostwood for a +5 try. Hides, dragon lord scales at the top, take a little less. Mixed stacks of one tier count together.
- A failed attempt costs only the material and the gold. The item keeps its level.
Every bonus rolls a grade
- G152%
- G226%
- G313%
- G46%
- G53%
These are the odds on a +5 of the best gear. Each grade is half as likely as the one below, and a bonus can't reach a grade higher than its level or the item's class: a magic plate armor (class 5) can roll grade 5, a coat (class 1) never passes grade 1.
What your gear can roll
Each upgrade adds one bonus from the item's list, picked at random. Every item climbs two ladders: ore or wood from +1 to +5, and hides from +1 to +5. A better class opens more of the ore and wood list: skills, magic level and hit chance from class 3, protection from class 4.

Ore at an anvil
- Swords, axes and clubs: attack up to +4, defense up to +4, its fighting skill up to +3 (class 3 and up)
- Armour: armor up to +2, hit points up to +75, protection against one element up to 4% (class 4 and up)
- Helmets: armor up to +1, magic level up to +2 (class 3 and up), mana up to +75
- Legs: armor up to +1, hit points up to +75, protection against one element up to 4% (class 4 and up)
- Boots: armor up to +1, speed up to +15

Wood at a workbench
- Bows and crossbows: attack up to +4, hit chance up to +6% (class 3 and up), distance fighting up to +3 (class 3 and up)
- Shields: defense up to +2, shielding up to +3 (class 3 and up), protection against one element up to 4% (class 4 and up)

Hides at a tanning rack
- Any weapon, shield or armour: up to 30% lighter, speed up to +15, hit points up to +75, mana up to +75
Weight cuts stop at 50% together with rarity's.
Not happy with a roll?
An alchemist's solvent takes the last upgrade off your item, so you can try that level again. A weak solvent takes off a +1, a grand solvent a +5. The upgrade window shows which one you need.

Good to know
- Upgrades stay on the item when you trade it or lose it.
- Upgrades stack with item rarity. Hit points, mana, skills, speed and protection from upgrades count toward the same limits as rarity's bonuses.
- Anyone can upgrade their own gear, but the Craft branch of each profession tree raises the chance, so a master miner is the one to reinforce your sword.
